REMINDERS FOR LIFE

Who and why you decide to spend your life with - is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life.
Don't take it lightly.

As you age, you will either drift away from your family or not be able to break from their shackles or realize they are extremely dear to you.
What will you regret not doing, when you are 50?
Do that today.

If your school friends keep dragging you down and pulling you back and make you feel bad about "growing too fast", fire them!
Don't feel guilty for not wanting them in your life.

You will constantly be judged. Your college. Your job. Your car. Your phone. Your clothes. Your choices. Remember that people judge because they want to feel good about themselves.
It has nothing to do with you. It is their insecurity.

Who you spend time with, will define the stories you hear.
The stories you hear, will define the stories in your head.
The stories in your head, will define you.
Choose who you spend time with, wisely!

You are not the only one confused. You are not the only one unsure. You are not the only one struggling.
You are not dumb, inadequate, incapable.
Everyone is struggling.
Everyone is figuring it out.
Don't be harsh on yourself.

While you are building your skills, the most important thing to build is your reputation.
Your goal is to make people say "I am not sure if she knows how to do it. But I am certain if told to do it, she will definitely figure it out. I trust her."

That thing you imagine to be the worst thing ever?
When it happens, it will feel like that - The worst thing ever.
You will get up everyday and it will be the first thing you will think of.
Until one day, when it won't be!
The worst thing you imagine, isn't the worst thing.

Optimize for your learning, not your salary.
Optimize for progress, not for stability.
Optimize for facing fears, not for comfort.

Simple reminders.
Powerful reminders.
Necessary reminders.

BOOK I AM READING THIS WEEK

Started reading The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
Was gifted this book (thanks Aditya) and it's one of those that you have known of for so many years, wanted to read but never got around to doing so.
So if it wasn't for the gift, I would not have.
The book is a moving true story of Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, who had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. So he gave what became his last lecture.
It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.

Uplifting, and heart wrenching at the same time. Definitely read this one.

My book has now sold 148,000+ copies, which is 140,000+ more than I had imagined it ever would! You can buy an original copy of DO EPIC SHIT here.

QUOTES TO SHARE

If you are loved only when you are around, then it’s not love. It’s convenience.

The world is designed to benefit from your self doubt and fear.
So it does everything to make you feel that way all the time.

RESPONSES TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION

Last week I asked you:

What do you prefer?

  1. Dancing to music
  2. Listening to music
  3. Humming/Singing to music
  4. Reading the lyrics of music
  5. I am not into music

Here are the responses:

  • People, irrespective of age, prefer listening to music, followed by humming, followed by dancing.
  • As we age, we do not like dancing as much - and move to humming/singing.
  • Reading the lyrics is a thing when young. When old people are like - why? :)
  • Share of folks not into music remains quite low, understandably so.

My response?
If I know the song, I prefer singing to the song. If I am driving, then I prefer shouting the song lol.

Do you have the right tools? Sometimes, I get these cute DMs: "Ankur, your pics are looking awesome. Which phone do you use?" "Ankur, your videos are so sharp. Which camera do you use?" "Your voice sounds so clear and deep. Which mic do you use?" "You have been meditating for so long without fail, which app do you use?" Makes me smile :)) It's the equivalent of me asking someone, "Your book was wonderful. Which pen did you use?" A lot of us are stuck in the wait for the right tools. The right...

I had to ask! When I met my current wife, Ruchi, at the age of 19 while in college, she was way out of my league! I was the super geeky and serious kid.I had strong notions about what is right and wrong.I was too uptight.I would even call myself sad at that point.Too serious. And took myself too seriously. She, on the other hand, was the Shahrukh Khan in everybody’s life.Happy and going with the flow :))Forever smiling.Everyone adored her.Her happiness made everyone else happy around her. We...

If it's just hard work, why wouldn't you do it? Our colony had the Tennis Singles Finals this morning. I lost. While I feel slightly bad about it, I am happy about 2 things: 1/ I didn't play it safe. I played aggressively and took my chances. It's another thing that most chances did not work out :)) But I tried! 2/ I know exactly where I went wrong and what I need to do to fix it. The distance between where I am and where I wish to be can be covered by hard work. You see, a lot of us are...
